Services in Holy Week and Easter 2015
Holy Week is the
most important week of the Christian year – do try to attend the four major services, as well as the other
services which are taking place.
Please ask a member of the clergy, a churchwarden or one of the Ministry Team if you would like transport to any
of the services.
Four acts, one drama. It is the drama of our salvation.
Don’t miss it!

The first ‘act’ of the drama draws us to Jerusalem as we recall, perhaps by
taking part in a short procession, Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city where, within just a week, he would be
put to death. |

Jesus’ command, ‘love one another’ is powerfully symbolised in the washing of
feet. The simple Eucharistic celebration draws us to the Upper Room where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper
with his disciples. As the church is stripped bare, the vigil of prayer begins in both churches as we respond
to Jesus’ words; ‘could you not watch with me one hour?’ Sign up to take part in the vigil of prayer in both
churches until midnight. |

In great solemnity we celebrate Christ’s victory over death. The
service is simple and stark because the feeling of Christ’s suffering and death is intense, yet at the same
time we know that triumph is near. Again we hear the account of the Passion, we revere the cross as the throne
of victory and we share simply in Christ’s gift of his body. |

Holy Saturday 4th April |
9.00pm |
Paschal Liturgy and First Eucharist of Easter |
All Saints' |
This is the night of all nights in the year. The ceremonies of the new
fire and Easter candle unite us with the earliest Christians, waiting for Christ to break forth from the tomb.
We hear the history of our salvation from the Old Testament, renew our own baptismal commitment and share in
the new life of Easter by receiving the sacrament of Our Lord’s risen body and blood. |

Everyone is welcome to attend this service
during which the clergy of the Diocese renew their ordination vows and the Bishop blesses the oils which are
taken back to the parishes. These oils are used at baptism, marriage, for anointing those in need of
strengthening at difficult times and for anointing the dying. |
